Do you know there are over 16,000 unpaid Carers; aged 5+, in Carlisle and Eden?

Are you, or do you know someone, who is a Carer?

We are an independent, local charity who have been providing services to support and enhance the lives of unpaid carers; of all ages, throughout Eden & Carlisle for over 30 years.  We are here to help, by providing free information, social activities and a listening ear.

Sue became a Carer suddenly when her husband had a stroke. Watch her story and find out how Carer Support Carlisle & Eden helped her.

Do you care?

An unpaid Carer is anyone, including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without their support. The care they give is unpaid.

3 in 5 of us will be a Carer at some point in our lives.

A Carer can enter their journey gradually over time, dementia for example or suddenly due to a life changing incident.  No two journeys, nor their duration are ever the same.

All journeys though are likely to involve, health and social care, employment, family relationships, forms and their bureaucracy, feeling alone, forgotten and frustrated.

However, no one ever need be alone on their journey as Carers Organisations; whose reason for existence is to support unpaid Carers on their journey, exist everywhere in the UK. More and more people, through Carer Champion training in the community and workplace, are becoming aware of unpaid Carers and directing them to support.

There will be stairs to climb, slides to drag you down and guidance on how to make the journey more rewarding. You need never be alone on your journey as we are here to support you.

Get Involved Help us to support even more carers in Eden

Carer Support Carlisle & Eden are one our most valuable partner organisations.  My colleagues and myself regularly refer people to this organisation for the varied and essential support they provide to Carers across Carlisle and Eden. Carer Support Carlisle & Eden staff keep our team well informed of the support they can and do provide and I feel that our teams communicate well. This is really important for the people we support, to maintain high quality support and prevention. I find every one of their staff to be professional, skilled and so willing to help and I really appreciate the fact that they try to operate a ‘keyworker’ style system, so that the Carer can generally benefit from an ongoing supportive relationship.

I am such a fan of Carer Support Carlisle & Eden, that I was very pleased to become one of their Carer Champions, for my organisation. I am very happy to continue to spread the positive message of the amazing work that (unpaid) Carers provide and to ensure that those who can benefit from Carer Support Carlisle & Eden support, do then gain access to their team.
