Our free Sitting Service, gives you the Carer a break from your role as a Carer, whilst knowing that the person you care for is being looked after.
To be eligible for the Sitting Service, the person you care for must not need any help with their personal care, taking medication, eating, drinking, lifting or moving. The service is not suitable for those with mental health conditions that could cause the person to become distressed or confused. The service can be delivered either in your own home, or you can bring your loved one to our fully-accessible offices where we have a comfortable private space, complete with reclining chair and TV.
Our Volunteer Sitters are interviewed, DBS checked, trained and supervised by our Volunteer Coordinator.
In choosing a suitable Volunteer Sitter, your Carer Support Worker and the Volunteer Coordinator will come to your home to do an eligibility visit, meeting the Cared For and discussing their needs, likes, dislikes, hobbies and interests. The Volunteer Coordinator will then match the Cared For with a suitable Volunteer. Once identified the Volunteer Coordinator and Volunteer will come to your house, making sure yourself and the Cared For is confident in and comfortable with the Volunteer.
Our Volunteers can sit with the same Cared For a maximum of 8 times.
We envisage each sit lasting no more than 2 hours.
To find out more about arranging an eligibility visit, please contact our office to discuss, asking for the Volunteer Coordinator. Note, if you are deemed eligible for the service, it may take several weeks to identify and match a volunteer with the Cared For.
